Our journey through Oman is one of preservation as much as discovery. From the way we build and operate to the way we farm, serve and host, sustainability underpins every decision at the Malkai.
Holistic, local, low-Impact
Sustainability at The Malkai is rooted in place. Every detail is considered—from sourcing regional materials and solar energy use, to greywater recycling and on-site organic farming. We strive to leave the lightest possible footprint, while enriching the environments and communities that host us.
Location-Based Sustainability
Each of our three locations is a unique ecological setting—coast, mountain, desert. Our sustainability practices respond to these environments in thoughtful and distinct ways:
BARKAA
- Date orchard regeneration
- Organic farming
- Water-efficient falaj irrigation
HAJAR
- Stone-built pavilions
- Cliff-edge solar arrays
- Wind-generated power
SHARQIYAH
- Minimal-impact tented architecture
- Dune preservation
- Zero-light pollution policies
Omani-Led, community-driven
We prioritise local hiring and skill development across our teams—from our guest-facing Murshids and wellness therapists, to the hands that craft our interiors and harvest our ingredients. Our partnerships with Omani artisans and producers support cultural continuity and sustainable livelihoods.
Nourish, conserve, regenerate
From farm-to-fork dining and in-house composting, to smart irrigation systems and off-grid solar energy, our operations are designed to work with—not against—the land. We believe in full-circle stewardship.
